Design Principles - Week 3 Repetition, Movement, Hierarchy & Alignment

Image
Week 3 This weeks lecture was about the design principles Repetition & Movement. Repetition is the uses of repeated shapes or elements in a piece to create a composition. It can be symmetrical or not. Movement is a composition that shows the movement in an image. Although an image is still a lot of elements can be used to show movement including lines and actions and different parts of the composition to emphasize the subject to be moving. Hierarchy and alignment is basically how a design is used to lead the viewer into a text or a subject by using different elements in it. Exercise 3 This exercise required you to make 2 artworks based on each principle Repetition and Movement, while applying hierarchy and alignment into it. Repetition First exercise is on repetition and i decided to sketch out a row of buildings. The idea is to show repetition using the building aligned next to each other. I used color pencils as water color or pastels were not available. Repe...

Digital Photography & Imaging - Project 1 (Cyborg)

Image
Project 1 Our first project is to use Adobe Photoshop to manipulate a picture of myself into a cyborg. We are assigned to only change a part of our body and the part i chose was one of our my arms. The reason I chose my arm is that the arms are an important part of our body which we use everyday. So if we get a cyborg arm it'll be stronger and wont get tired as easily so it'll make life very convenient. Sketches Rough sketches for cyborg arm I plan on making the arm one of those white colored cyborg arms which are split into different sections, revealing the wires and machinery between the sections connecting them. Got feedback and was asked to include a fullbody sketch. Full body sketch Process I used my camera on a tripod to take the picture. Using my phones remote play to activate shutter and to frame myself. I took a few shots and chose one i was happy with. I also searched up some PNG Images to use with my cyborg edit. Camera used - Sony A7III with Sigma 24...

Design Principles - Week 2 Emphasis & Balance

Image
Week 2 This weeks lecture was about the design principles Emphasis and Balance. Emphasis shows the technique used to draw the audiences attention to a certain subject using contrasting elements or colors or graphics and lines leading into it. Balance shows how symmetry is used to create designs, going into the basics of different types of symmetry used within this principle. Excercise 2 This exercise required you to make 2 artworks based on each principle emphasis and balance. Emphasis For emphasis I decided to use color to bring attention to my subject, I started with a basic sketch on paper and then after outlining with a marker i added colors with a sharpie for the subject and some really light color using color pencils so that it does not draw attention way from the subject. My physical drawing skills aren't that good but I tried to apply the design principle regardless drawing skills. Sketching process Marker outline added Finished piece with color...

Design Principles - Week 1 Contrast & Gestalt Theoroy

Image
Week 1 Week 1's lecture was about different elements of design, contrast and what it is. It also showed how contrast was used in different contexts, whether it was to emphasize on a subject or to show emotion. The lecture also showed how contrast was used to show the Gestalt theory which is when an image forms 2 images using the negative space. Excercise 1 We were given 2 exercises. Make 1 image to show contrast and 1 image using the Gestalt theory. First step is to sketch them out and 2nd step would be to do it on black and white paper. I do not have any paper at the moment so I did my sketches in Adobe Illustrator. Contrast For this one first I decided to do a sloth. At first I thought we had to combine both gestalt and contrast so i was struggling a bit. I used these 2 images as a reference to make it I cut out the bird and made some circles to replicate the face of a sloth Final image ended up looking like this After getting feedback i decided...
