Experience
I have experienced and learned a lot from these weeks taking typography. When I first started typography I have no idea what it was. I went into it thinking it was calligraphy (although calligraphy is part of it). Although it was a lot of work I enjoyed every one of the projects cause it required us to use our creativity in a different way each time. I also found myself being more familiarized with the adobe apps Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign as I did my projects. I learned a lot about text in itself which I never knew existed. Different fonts and its applications which are not only limited to aesthetics, but has other reasons to be used. How a magazine article is not just a body of text, and that has a lot of things to it to be pleasing to the audience. Overall It was a great experience and I really enjoyed and learned a lot.
Observation
As the classes went on, I noticed myself looking at the details of a text or the fonts when i did random browsing, playing games or seeing a poster/billboard. I never paid attention to these things before. I looked at the kerning and tracking of the letters on game titles and researched fonts of it.I also found that I enjoyed this subject more that I thought I would. At first when it started I felt I wouldn't enjoy this class. But as it went on I found myself enjoying the projects more and more. I also found myself appreciating a lot of the little detail that goes into a body of text. I finished The Last Of Us Part 2 recently, and i really was intrigued by the credits. This is the first time I ever seen the credits of something after I started this class so I found it really interesting that I was intrigued by it.
Findings
I found that in typography, Even smallest thing counts. Every small detail could make a huge difference, good or bad. This means in typography there is a lot of room for error and also a lot of room for improvement. I also found that almost everything done in a body of text has reason, Front font size to paragraphing to even the font used, has more than 1 reason for it to be there. Outside of typography, I gained a lot of other knowledge especially about adobe apps and frame by frame animation. The first animation exercise was given in this module ( The animation of type expression) Which taught me a lot about the fundamentals of basic animation.
